What will you be doing

Reporting to the Head of Research, the Associate Director of Credit Research will be responsible for the coverage of issuers in the Australian debt markets (focusing on corporates and financials). The role will require undertaking initial credit assessments and ongoing surveillance. The coverage universe includes low-end investment grade, cross-over companies and smaller non-rated companies. They will work closely with the broader team to ensure all companies in all are appropriately covered. The role will also prepare and publish longer-form thematic reports. 

The Research team comprises the Head of Research, an Associate Director, an Associate of Credit Research, and an Investment Strategist. 

This role is based in Perth and will see you:  

The successful applicant will work in close collaboration with the Research Associate. Jointly, they will cover the True Corporates, Property and Financials. Specific responsibilities will be determined on a case-by-case basis, based on complexity and profile of a given issuer, with the Associate Director taking a more prominent lead on initiation of coverage and the Associate responsible for ongoing surveillance and monitoring.  

  • Produce comprehensive, company specific, credit research – including financial forecasts – on issuers in the relevant sectors
  • Keep abreast of corporate events and regulatory developments, and produce short-form reports as needed
  • Prepare all relevant collateral to enable the trading of new bonds on the FIIG platform
  • Support the Investment Strategy team by contributing to trade opportunities ideas (by summarising Credit Research views)
  • Become familiar with rating agency views and methodologies
  • Contribute to the daily morning meeting and various publications
  • Attend meetings and presentations with internal and external clients
  • Contribute and support the preparation and production of larger thematic pieces in consultation with other research members
  • Other research related tasks as directed by the Head of Research
  • Assist and support the dissemination of FIIG Research reports directly to clients.
  • Support Private Client Services team as required in relation to any Credit Research related matters
  • Attend and contribute as required to daily morning sales meetings

About you

To be considered for this key role, you will have experience in: 

Skills

  • 4-7 years' experience in credit research (fixed income or equity).
  • Some knowledge of all credit sectors in the Australian economy.
  • Strong experience in at least one sector (Financial, true corporate, property, etc).
  • Strong knowledge of fundamental credit analysis.
  • Some experience with non-rated companies looked on very favourably.
  • Attention to detail, with excellent analytical, numeracy and modelling skills.
  • Demonstrates a high level of written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting and understanding of how to analyse financial statements.
  • Strong computer skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to credibly present, express and exchange opinions to small and large groups.
  • Self-motivated and willingness to be flexible in a small team.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • High standards of professionalism and integrity.
  • Knowledge of bond documentation, including covenants, would be a plus.
  • Degree from a leading University in Accounting, Finance/Commerce, Engineering, Mathematics or Economics. Masters preferred.

  • Bloomberg Terminal Experience

Qualifications / Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance/Commerce, Engineering, Mathematics, Economics or other relevant discipline needed. Master's degree not required, but looked on favourably.
