About the role

We are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Project Manager (Cyber Security) to lead the delivery of ICT-enabled projects and initiatives within a large, government-focused organisation. The initial assignment will provide high-level specialist project management support to a significant Cyber Security Program of work, however the resource model encourages flexibility, and you may contribute to multiple initiatives throughout your engagement. You'll be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered effectively, on time, and aligned with strategic objectives, while fostering a culture of collaboration and delivery confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a project team to meet project deliverables, objectives, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Prepare and maintain project artefacts including stakeholder management, resource management, reporting, governance documentation, and change management plans.
  • Develop and execute end-to-end project management activities, from scoping and requirements through to implementation and deployment.
  • Proactively monitor, manage, and report on execution of project deliverables.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels using multiple methods and channels.
  • Manage integrated project schedules, ensuring appropriate change management activities for a smooth transition to BAU.
  • Deliver continuous improvements to the operating model, working in consultation with governance boards, customers, and suppliers.

Skills and experience

  • Minimum 4 years' experience managing cyber security projects.
  • Strong knowledge of cyber security best practices and Australian Government security standards, including the ISM and Essential 8.
  • Proven track record managing projects that achieve or uphold security certifications (e.g., Essential 8, ISM).
  • Hands-on experience managing cyber assurance activities such as threat and risk assessments, penetration testing, compliance reporting, and system reviews.
  • Proven experience delivering transformative ICT projects in complex settings using PRINCE2 methodology.\
  • Strong capability in maintaining project schedules using tools such as Microsoft Project, with desired experience in Microsoft Enterprise Portfolio Online.
  • Ability to develop governance artefacts to support project delivery across its lifecycle
  • Skilled in leading project resources, managing vendors, and building high-performing team cultures.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to manage senior stakeholders and clearly articulate risks and issues in a political environment.

Desirable

  • Experience in public sector or compliance-heavy environments.
  • Familiarity with cyber security certifications, controls, and risk management frameworks.
  • Relevant certifications in project management (e.g., PRINCE2, AgilePM, PMP).
