About the role

Martyn Mining Services is seeking experienced Shotfirers and Blast Crew to join our dynamic WA team. As a Shotfirer, you will play a crucial role in our mining operations, overseeing the safe and efficient execution of blasting activities at our job sites within the Goldfields Region, WA. These full-time position offers an opportunity to contribute to the success of our business while developing your skills in the mining industry.

What you'll be doing

  1. Preparing, loading, and detonating explosives in a safe and controlled manner
  2. Coordinating and supervising the blast crew to ensure all activities are completed to the highest safety standards
  3. Monitoring and maintaining blast hole patterns, explosives, and associated equipment
  4. Conducting pre-blast inspections and implementing appropriate safety protocols
  5. Analysing blast data and providing recommendations for process improvements
  6. Ensuring compliance with all relevant mining regulations and company policies
  7. Collaborating with the mining team to optimise blasting operations and minimise disruptions

What we're looking for

  1. Proven experience as a Shotfirer or Blast Crew member in the mining industry, with a strong understanding of blasting techniques and safety protocols
  2. Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Shotfirer
  3. Relevant qualifications, such as a Shotfirer's Certificate, Explosives Handling Certificate, or equivalent
  4. Demonstrated proficiency with electronic detonation systems and blast design software
  5. Excellent communication and team-working skills to effectively coordinate the blast crew
  6. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities to handle complex situations
  7. Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and a proactive approach to risk management
  8. Willingness to work in a dynamic, fast-paced mining environment
  9. Current Dangerous Goods Security Card and National Police Clearance
  10. Valid HR Driver's License highly desirable
  11. Must have Australian work rights and be able to pass pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol screening
  12. Experience with different explosive types and blast pattern designs
