About the Role:

The School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering (CME) is seeking an experienced civil engineering professional with a passion for education to join our teaching team. This role is ideal for professionals with significant experience working in the civil engineering industry, who are eager to share their expertise with the next generation of engineers, and help students bridge the gap between theory and practice.

You will contribute to development and delivery of high quality, practice-informed teaching in the Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Professional Engineering programs, supervise industry-relevant student projects and collaborate with colleagues to enhance curriculum design.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Actively contribute to the organisation, planning, delivery and evaluation of teaching in the Civil Engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrate best practice, innovative teaching methods which enhance the student experience.
  • Assess and provide feedback on student work, contributing to curriculum innovation and content design.
  • Actively engage with the Civil Engineering discipline and promote a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Apply relevant health and safety standards, including required responsibilities of Supervisors for practical classes and research students.
  • Promote the discipline within and outside the University community by engaging in service and leadership roles, as well as outreach activities.
  • In all interactions with staff and students, demonstrate the University values of integrity, respect, courage, excellence and impact.

Who we are looking for – Selection Criteria:

Essential:

  1. Postgraduate qualification in Civil Engineering or a related field, and significant, demonstrable experience in the civil engineering industry (e.g., infrastructure, construction, geotechnical, structural, or transport), with evidence of participation in (a) technical role/s.
  2. Demonstrated capability for developing and delivering teaching in technical, professional or academic domains.
  3. Demonstrated ability / experience / capacity to undertake a unit coordination role.
  4. Demonstrated ability or potential to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
  5. Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to integrity, health and safety, equity and inclusivity.

Desirable:

  1. Experience in engineering design and drawing, and surveying.
  2. Chartered status with a professional engineering body is highly desired.
  3. Experience in conducting or managing industry R&D projects.
  4. A PhD in an engineering related field.

Role Requirements:

  • As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered.
  • Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin's satisfaction.
  • This is a part-time role and we are open to negotiation between 0.4 – 0.8 FTE.

Your new Team – School of CME:

The School of CME delivers undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and high-quality research in civil and mechanical engineering. Curtin is recognised internationally as a leader in graduate research studies and for the breadth and quality of its research higher degree programs and offers Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.  The School has acquired laboratory facilities worth over $5 million and has a student retention rate 90% retained in School programs, with 93% retained at Curtin, one of the highest student-satisfaction rates across the university.
