The School of Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPS) at Curtin University is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable academic with proven research and teaching skills in Space and Planetary Science. This position will conduct independent research as part of the Space Science and Technology Centre (SSTC) and develop high-quality teaching programs in the new Bachelor of Science major in Space and Planetary Sciences. This role includes teaching and supervising research projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertake world-class research, resulting in research student completions, publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and successful grant applications.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the SSTC to help build a vibrant and sustainable research team.
  • Actively contribute to the organisation, planning, delivery and evaluation of teaching in our new Space & Planetary Science major.
  • Demonstrate best practices and innovative teaching methods that enhance the student experience.
  • Actively engage with the Planetary Science Discipline to promote a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Apply relevant health and safety standards, including the required responsibilities of Supervisors for practical classes and research students.
  • Promote the Planetary Science Discipline within and outside the University community by engaging in service and leadership roles, as well as outreach activities.
  • In all interactions with staff and students, demonstrate the University values of integrity, respect, courage, excellence and impact.

Who we're looking for - Selection Criteria:

Essential Criteria:

  1. PhD in Space and/or Planetary Sciences or a related discipline, and post-doctoral research and/or university or relevant industry experience.
  2. Demonstrable track record of research funding success and high-quality publications, relative to opportunity.
  3. Demonstrated ability / experience / capacity to undertake a unit coordination role (ALB).
  4. Demonstrable evidence of high-quality teaching coordination and a reflective approach to teaching delivery (ALC).
  5. Demonstrated ability or potential to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects (ALB).
  6. Demonstrable record of graduate research supervision and conferral of Higher Degree by Research Students (ALC).
  7. Demonstrated high-level communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage students and staff respectfully across cultures and collaborate collegially.
  8. Demonstrated commitment to integrity, health and safety, equity and inclusivity.

Role Requirements:

  1. As this is a continuing position, you will require permanent work rights. We will also consider international candidates who are eligible for a relevant visa. Visa sponsorship and relocation support may be considered.
