About the role

The City of Swan is proud to support a vibrant and diverse community, with a strong foundation in youth development and engagement. We're looking for a passionate and energetic Youth Activity Officer to join our Youth Development team.

In this role, you'll connect with young people aged 12 to 25 across the City of Swan through various settings, including our youth centres, Bullseye (Bullsbrook), Ellenbrook Youth Centre and Dayton Youth & Family Hub. However this role extends beyond the youth centres, connecting with young people in the community through outreach, specialised programs and pop-up activities.

All Youth Development programs aim to provide safe, inclusive, and accessible spaces for young people to socialise, engage in recreation, and participate in their local community.

Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work alongside the team to deliver and supervise programs that promote inclusion, learning and participation for young people.
  • Encourage youth participation through building positive relationships and creating welcoming, inclusive environments.
  • Promote access to services and opportunities by providing information, referrals and guidance where appropriate.
  • Contribute to safe practices by supporting risk assessments, maintaining duty of care and applying de-escalation skills where needed.
  • Gather feedback from young people to help inform and improve programs and activities.
  • Contribute to creating welcoming environments that celebrate diversity and affirm young people's identities.
  • Contribute to creating safe and inclusive opportunities that empower young people to share their ideas, take on responsibilities and build leadership skills.

About you

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in Youth Work or similar, or demonstrated progress towards qualification
  • Have working knowledge of social, cultural and economic issues impacting young people and appropriate referral pathways to support
  • Strong administration skills with competency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to communicate effectively with young people and build rapport in a range of settings
  • Understanding of Youth Work Code of Ethics
  • Be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, during school holidays and occasional weekends for community and youth events
  • A satisfactory National Police Certificate
  • Current 'C' Class driver's license and access to reliable vehicle
  • Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain prior to commencement
  • Current Working with Children Check

The hourly rate for this position will be from $ $44.05 per hour, plus casual loading, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
