The Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory (VIDRL) is a leading Australian infectious diseases reference laboratory located in Melbourne, Victoria. VIDRL is part of the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity (the Doherty) a joint venture between the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the University of Melbourne. VIDRL provides the Victorian Department of Health with virology, mycobacterial, parasitology and mycology public health reference laboratory services, including surveillance, outbreak investigations, reference testing and research. VIDRL also performs diagnostic testing, mainly in virology, for Victorian hospitals. In addition, VIDRL has national reference laboratory designations as well as a strong commitment to international health programs through the WHO.
Your new role:
Applications are invited for an experienced Research and Grants Coordinator to assist in the application process of research, government, and philanthropic grants, while supporting the development and implementation of a research strategy. This position will work closely with the Director and Executive, developing funding applications, horizon scanning for future funding opportunities, and coordinating significant and high-profile national and international grants (government and philanthropic), projects and clinical trials.
More specifically this role will:
- Coordinate the development and submission of VIDRL-led large collaborative grant applications, research proposals and government tenders for Australian and international funders
- Assist in developing a research and grant strategy as part of VIDRL's strategic plan
- Support VIDRL research committees in implementation of the research strategy
- Develop and support relationships with key funders of health research, including philanthropic organisations
- Work closely and collaboratively with key partners in the Doherty Institute and Parkville Precinct to strengthen and foster internal collaboration and communication
About you:
- Graduate degree in biomedical science or equivalent
- Extensive experience in preparing large complex grants
- High level of motivation and organisational skills
- Experience in the development and implementation of research strategies
- Excellent communication skills and a passion for continued professional development
- Demonstrated experience in research partnerships and the ability to establish new collaborations
- Ability to work mornings, evenings, and/or weekends as necessary during peak periods in response to external deadlines
