Primary objective

To support the design, delivery and evaluation of business and industry development policy, programs and projects that enhance

the sustainability, capability and competitiveness of Territory businesses and support the economic development of the Northern

Territory.

Context statement

The Department of Trade, Business and Asian Relations (DTBAR) is the Northern Territory Government's lead agency to shape an

enabling environment that activates industry, attracts investment and drives business growth to sustain a vibrant Territory

economy and lifestyle. The Policy, Strategy and Insights Division works across industry and government to drive business and

economic development. This includes delivering programs, analysis, advice and policy development to ensure the business

environment remains competitive and effective.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Project manage the development, implementation and evaluation of business and industry policy, programs and other initiatives.

2. Research, analyse and synthesise information to inform policy, projects and initiatives being undertaken by the team.

3. Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and government and industry stakeholders, including through

meetings, working groups and forums.

1. Support innovative solutions to complex policy and program challenges, delivering outcomes within tight timeframes.

2. Prepare draft briefs, analysis, discussion papers, correspondence, and meeting materials for internal, Ministerial, Cabinet and

stakeholder engagement purposes.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Experience in the design and development of programs including project planning, development and evaluation.

2. Experience in policy research and development, including the ability to analyse policy issues and use evidence and data to

develop sound advice.

3. Effective written and verbal communication skills including the ability to deliver considered advice, prepare briefings, reports,

presentations and Ministerial correspondence.

1. Demonstrated collaboration, engagement and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to establish and sustain

productive working relationships

5. Work effectively as part of a small professional team, managing multiple tasks and projects to deliver high quality outcomes

within tight timeframes.

Desirable

1. Understanding of Territory and national business, industry and economic development and political environments.

1. Tertiary qualifications in public policy, economics, business or other relevant disciplines.

2. Knowledge or experience working within local business and industry sectors.
