My client is seeking a General Manager to lead and grow their Corporate Governance consulting business.

As General Manager, you'll lead the Corporate Governance business, overseeing day-to-day operations while driving its long-term strategic direction. This is a highly visible role where you'll shape growth plans, strengthen the profile of the business, and ensure excellence in client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Define the strategic direction of the Corporate Governance business, focusing on client development, service evolution, and market positioning.
  • Monitor profitability and workflow quality, encouraging a culture of accountability.
  • Identify opportunities for new products, sectors, jurisdictions, and partnerships.
  • Provide strategic planning support and expert advice on key initiatives.

People Leadership

  • Provide overall leadership and guidance to the team, fostering best practice.
  • Model and promote behaviours that encourage collaboration, professional growth, and a strong team culture.
  • Build strong working relationships across teams to strengthen internal collaboration and external reputation.

Governance & Risk

  • Lead the team in managing business performance and aligning work allocation to budget.
  • Support practitioners in identifying and managing risk effectively.
  • Build and manage successful client relationships.
  • Provide expert, practical advice on the Corporations Act, ASX Listing Rules, and corporate governance matters.
  • Attend board and committee meetings, ensuring timely and accurate minutes.
  • Provide technical support on complex governance and compliance matters.

Financial Management

  • Oversee financial performance, including invoicing, forecasts, and creditor management.
  • Lead the preparation of annual budgets, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Monitor revenue and expenditure to achieve profit targets.
  • Ensure all financial and risk reporting obligations are met.

Who Should Be Interested

This role will suit someone who is:

  • Degree-qualified in Law, Business, Commerce, Communications or similar, with an unrestricted practising certificate.
  • Experienced (10+ years) in professional services, consulting, legal, finance, or company secretary roles.
  • Highly skilled in the Corporations Act and ASX Listing Rules.
  • A strategic thinker with proven experience setting direction and leading teams.
  • Strong in people leadership, with the ability to influence, inspire, and drive results.
  • Commercially astute with P&L or budget management experience.
  • Comfortable managing multiple complex projects at once, with a focus on delivery.
  • Knowledgeable about governance trends in both ANZ and global markets.
  • Motivated by working in a fast-paced, client-facing environment with opportunities to shape and grow the business.

You'll enjoy full flexibility in how you work, with the understanding that some domestic travel will be required.

Salary for this role will be circa $300-350k inclusive of super, plus bonus.
