Primary objective

Support students to engage with the curriculum through a trauma-informed approach, while collecting and analysing student data to

actively inform Education Adjustment Plans (EAPs). Provide high-level administrative support to the Special Education Teacher, assisting

in the implementation of departmental and school-based policies and programs. Achieve optimal educational outcomes for students with

varying degrees of impairment by working collaboratively to facilitate their effective inclusion into the school and wider community.

Additionally, support classroom teachers in delivering quality education programs, including planning for intervention for students with

special needs and identified disabilities from Preschool to Year 6.

Context statement

Leanyer School is a large, diverse and innovative Independent Public School for Preschool – Year 6 students in the northern suburbs of

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Collaborate with teachers in implementing individualised programs for students with disabilities, providing feedback while maintaining

confidentiality.

2. Provide targeted early intervention support for students in Preschool to Year 6 and assist in the planning and implementation of

individualised learning plans and behaviour support strategies aligned with ACECQA National Quality Standards, Australian Curriculum

and the NT Department of Education and Training.

  1. Assist in the preparation/modification of daily classroom materials and activities.
  2. Maintain appropriate records for students with additional needs through SAMS, SAIS, SSIDS and Xuno.
  3. Work with limited supervision, including the supervision of students at recess or lunch as well as before and after school.
  4. Support the delivery of programs including Allied Health Programs and intervention.
  5. Assist in managing a student's health care plan including the administration of medication and first aid.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated successful experience working with students with diverse diagnosis, to provide learning opportunities and recognised

interventions to address deficits in areas such as communication, self-regulation, social/interpersonal skills and functional academic

skills.

  1. An ability to work within a cross-cultural environment, interact effectively with people from diverse cultures and successfully develop

effective partnerships with students, colleagues and families.

  1. Demonstrated effective oral, written and high-level computer communication skills, and the ability to work successfully independently

and as part of a team, exercising sound judgement.

  1. Current Working with Children Clearance Notice and First Aid Certificate.
  2. Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to show empathy, patience and work effectively in a dynamic and challenging

environment.

Desirable

1. Qualifications or working towards Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
