Primary objective

The Assistant Principal works collaboratively and positively with the schools' Principal and other members of the Leadership

Team to ensure that the teaching and learning at Woodroffe Primary School is effective and consistent for our students

with disabilities.

Context statement

Woodroffe Primary School is a medium, diverse urban primary school situated in the City of Palmerston. The school includes

a Preschool, Primary (T – Year 6) and a High Support Special Education Centre. The school's vision is to provide every

opportunity for all students to reach their full potential within a respectful, safe and inclusive community in which we are

all valued.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. In collaboration with the Principal, provide leadership in the development and implementation of curriculum within the

school to deliver effective personalised educational programs that meet the needs of students with a disability.

2. Enact and foster partnerships with families, community, agencies, and professional networks to achieve educational

outcomes for students at Woodroffe Primary School with additional needs.

3. Provides leadership in the development, implementation and review of school teaching and learning policies to promote

high expectations along with high engagement.

4. Support the Principal in the provision of human, financial and physical resources in accordance with DoE policy to

maximise all school resources to achieve school plans.

5. Accept an appropriate teaching load.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Extensive current experience and demonstrated exemplary skills and knowledge of current research-based practices

and pedagogy for students with moderate and severe intellectual and/or multiple disability and complex behaviours

within a special education unit.

2. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with a proven ability to build partnerships

with families of diverse cultures, students, colleagues, allied health and medical providers, School Support Services and

the community to deliver integrated and effective education for students with a disability.

  1. Proven current effective leadership in the development and implementation of school processes and policies including

the design and delivery of transition to middle school programs, provision of targeted professional learning, monitoring

health care needs, Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) profiles and individualised coaching and mentoring

of staff.

4. High level adaptability and flexibility including demonstrated ability to manage pressure and change in a rapidly evolving

environment, and to modify approaches to suit different people and situations.
