The Company

Topcoat Asphalt, part of the VSA Roads group and Colas Australia since February 2018, is South Australia's leading independent supplier of asphalt products and laying services. Topcoat has been delivering projects in Civil Infrastructure, Residential, Commercial, State & Local Government construction sectors for more than 30 years.

The Role

We are currently seeking a driven and ambitious Project Manager to join the Topcoat Asphalt contracting team. You will have strong working relationships with the Crew Supervisors, Operations, Production, Technical, Administration and fellow Project Management personnel. You will be primarily responsible for leading the planning and successful delivery of asphalt contracting projects, including major infrastructure projects and key contracts across State Road, Local Government and Civil Construction market segments. This will include responsibility for overall project administration, customer service and resource utilisation for our asphalt contracting activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Management of project specific Safety, Quality & Environmental scope requirements.
  • Primary contact point for clients, with high levels of effective communication and responsiveness.
  • Input to crew scheduling, logistics planning and Contracting programming.
  • Managing the daily activities, resourcing, quality and productivity targets of asphalt laying crews and subcontractors.
  • Contribute to pre-start site inspections, reviewing plans and critical analysis of scope, risks and opportunities.
  • Input to tendering and quoting activities, using your experience and knowledge.
  • Build on mutually beneficial relationships with customers, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Collaboration with the Contracting & Operations Managers, Crew Supervisors, Production & Technical teams and Administration personnel to optimise customer service, project outcomes and the business reputation.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have proven contracting and project management experience in the road construction, bituminous surfacing or civil contracting industries.
  • Civil engineering degree qualifications would be beneficial, however not essential.
  • Be team orientated, disciplined and driven to succeed.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with attention to detail, a focus on planning and a mindset of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Build effective and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Have a proven ability to work under pressure on multiple tasks, with the capacity to deal with complexity and prioritise workloads to meet customer and business needs.
