Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Ord Minnett Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

About the role:

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst to join our Business Applications team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. Working within a cohesive team and an established software development framework, this role is pivotal to the delivery of new systems and enhancements to core applications that support our 500+ staff across multiple business units and align with the broader business strategy.

As a Senior Business Analyst, you will own end-to-end analysis for high-complexity initiatives, collaborate closely with other BAs, UI/UX designers, developers, project managers, and stakeholders across the project lifecycle, and provide coaching to junior analysts as needed. You will support change delivery from initiation through implementation and post-go-live support.

Reporting to the Business Applications Manager, the role requires superior communication, facilitation, and organisational skills to thrive in our fast-paced and challenging wealth management environment.

Primary responsibilities:

Projects & Enhancements

  • Develop a solid understanding of application architecture, third-party integrations, data flows, and operating environments, and how these influence solution options and delivery sequencing.
  • Lead analysis and solution definition for high-complexity projects and enhancements; contribute to solution design alongside senior analysts, architects, UX/UI designers and developers.
  • Elicit, analyse, and document business, functional, and non-functional requirements with clear acceptance criteria and traceability.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to define problems/opportunities, assess solution options, support business case inputs, and recommend pragmatic paths forward.
  • Partner with vendors and internal development teams to shape feasible designs, plan increments, and support delivery within agreed timeframes and budgets.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and execute System Testing and User Acceptance Testing (UAT); contribute to test strategies, test cases, and defect triage.
  • Produce user guides, knowledge articles, and support handover documentation; assist with hypercare and benefits realisation tracking post-implementation.

Client Service & People

  • Build strong working relationships across business units; maintain a proactive, customer-first mindset for internal and external clients.
  • Respond promptly to stakeholder needs and requests; facilitate workshops, playback sessions, and decision forums with clear, concise communication.
  • Coordinate and deliver targeted user training; develop concise training materials tailored to end-user groups.
  • Promote an inclusive, collaborative team culture; provide informal mentoring to junior team members and contribute to practice improvements (templates, standards, frameworks).

Delivery Governance & Continuous Improvement

  • Apply appropriate delivery methods (Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid) and support rituals (backlog refinement, sprint planning, demos) with a focus on measurable outcomes.
  • Use data to inform decisions—perform impact analysis, data investigations, and light analytics to validate hypotheses and measure change effects.
  • Contribute to risk / issue identification and mitigation; uphold quality standards for analysis artefacts, testing evidence, and release readiness.

About You:

We are seeking a candidate with a critical and methodical approach to solving complex problems, who thrives in a dynamic work environment. You possess a strong adherence to quality and timeliness, coupled with an exceptional attention to detail in every task you undertake. As a motivated self-starter, you have the ability to take ownership of your work, delivering impactful outcomes while working autonomously.

Your strong organisational and self-management skills enable you to effectively prioritise tasks and maintain productivity. Furthermore, you excel in verbal, presentation, and communication skills, allowing you to articulate ideas clearly and collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Required experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, information systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years in business / system analysis, ideally within ICT application development
  • Demonstrated experience delivering multi-stakeholder initiatives across business units; comfortable owning analysis and execution for medium / high-complexity workstreams.
  • Broad finance industry knowledge preferred
  • Exposure to regulated financial services is advantageous
  • Stockbroking / wealth management experience across compliance, productivity, and efficiency is a plus.

Required knowledge & skills:

  • Excellent requirements and specification writing skills; proficiency with user stories, process maps, and acceptance criteria.
  • Excellent planning, estimating, and execution skills, including test design, system and user acceptance testing, and defect management
  • Excellent understanding of project delivery methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall); able to operate effectively in hybrid environments.
  • Advanced SQL for data analysis, investigation, and extracts
  • Advanced skills with data analysis & reporting tools (e.g., Excel/Power BI) is desirable.
