Practice Manager

Our client, a successful and steadily growing commercial law firm is seeking an experienced Practice Manager to oversee the firm's day-to-day operations and lead its HR, compliance, finance and business support functions. While prior experience in a law firm is highly regarded, it is not essential.
Reporting directly to the Directors, this role is central to the smooth running of the business and plays a key part in supporting the firm's long-term growth. The Practice Manager will be involved in all aspects of operational leadership, ensuring the practice operates efficiently and that lawyers are supported.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee daily operational, administrative and practice management activities across all practice areas
- Manage end-to-end HR processes including onboarding/offboarding, payroll inputs, contracts and compliance
- Act as primary liaison for external suppliers and outsourced service partners
- Oversee financial administration including invoicing, reconciliations, expenses and support across trust and office accounting
- Prepare financial and operational reporting to assist Directors with planning, budgeting and performance management
- Partner with Directors to implement business plans, monitor KPIs and drive continuous improvement
- Ensure compliance with WHS, privacy, risk and broader legal industry obligations
- Coordinate internal IT needs and work with the external IT provider to ensure secure, reliable systems
- Oversee technology projects, upgrades and legal-tech compliance (e.g., PMS, MFA, cybersecurity)
- Experience in senior operations, office management or practice management within legal or professional services
- Strong financial and reporting capability, with experience across accounts, budgeting and governance
- Familiarity with trust accounting principles and practice management systems
- Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate financial/operational insights
- Experience managing suppliers, IT systems and outsourced services
- Strong HR knowledge including Fair Work compliance and employment processes
- High level of professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive information
- Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills
- Proactive, solutions-focused and able to manage competing priorities confidently
- Project management experience
