About us
At the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), we're dedicated to carrying out meaningful work that drives improvements and elevates student achievement across NSW, now and into the future.
We accomplish this by supporting all school sectors with high-quality syllabuses, assessment (including managing the HSC and NAPLAN), teaching standards (e.g., accrediting teachers) and school environments (including setting and monitoring school standards).
NESA is a unique organisation in NSW (of around 740FTE staff) with significant state-wide impact, visit our website to learn more about the important work we do.
About the role
The Teaching Standards and Accreditation directorate leads the accreditation of NSW teachers from early childhood to secondary education, ensuring high-quality teaching across the state. We set accreditation policy, make accreditation decisions, oversee quality assurance, and provide expert support and guidance to teachers and employers. Our work directly contributes to maintaining excellence and consistency in teaching standards across NSW.
As an Accreditation Officer within the Teaching Standards and Accreditation Directorate, you will play a vital role in strengthening the quality of teaching in NSW by supporting teachers to achieve and maintain accreditation against the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. Working collaboratively within a high-performing team, you will contribute to ensuring the validity and consistency of accreditation processes, enabling confident, informed and future-focused teaching practice across NSW schools and early childhood services.
This is an opportunity for a passionate and knowledgeable education professional who thrives in a dynamic, stakeholder-focused environment. You will make a tangible impact on the teaching profession, while expanding your policy, advisory and presentation experience in a purpose-led organisation.
On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for:
- Providing timely, expert advice to teachers across all levels of accreditation both verbally and in writing
- Assessing teacher accreditation applications to ensure compliance with NESA policy and the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
- Contributing to the delivery and continuous improvement of accreditation policies, quality assurance measures and support resources
- Designing and delivering presentations, information sessions and guidance to teachers and stakeholders
- Developing high-quality support materials informed by research and best practice
- Analysing data and feedback to inform strategic insights and continuous improvement efforts
- Contributing innovative, well-considered solutions to emerging accreditation challenges
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality advice, correspondence and presentations within established timeframes while managing competing priorities
- Experience supporting or implementing education, quality assurance or accreditation frameworks in a complex stakeholder environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess information and identify practical solutions
- Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience tailoring guidance to diverse audiences
- A collaborative working style and the ability to work effectively within a high-performing team
- Appropriate tertiary education qualifications and accreditation at Proficient Teacher or above (essential)
- Knowledge of issues pertaining to the accreditation of teachers in NSW including emerging trends in state and national policy (essential)
Note: A current NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance for paid employment is required before commencing in this role. It is not required at the application stage. The cost of the WWCC clearance is the responsibility of the successful applicant.
