About us
ADA Australia is a not-for-profit, independent advocacy and information service committed to supporting older people and people with disability to understand and exercise their rights. With a strong presence across Queensland, we work to ensure individuals are treated with dignity and respect and have access to the services and support they need. Our team is passionate about creating safe, inclusive, and empowering environments for the people we serve and the staff who make it happen.
About the role
As a Disability Advocate, you will provide information, support and representation to people with disability, their family or unpaid carer. You'll work closely with the Team Leader and Manager, Advocacy Services to deliver individual, group and systemic advocacy that promotes, protects and upholds human rights. This role involves helping clients navigate complex systems such as the NDIS, addressing issues like abuse, neglect and discrimination, and ensuring people have a voice in decisions that affect their lives. You'll also build networks and raise community awareness.
Key duties include:
• Provide individual, group or systemic advocacy to address issues such as rights, safety, complaints, and access to services (including the NDIS).
• Network and build partnerships with organisations and service providers.
• Represent ADA Australia at workshops, forums, public engagements and networking events.
• Promote ADA Australia's services using available resources and raise community awareness of identified issues.
• Maintain up to date knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures; apply contemporary research and practice wisdom.
• Keep high quality records, meet service targets, and participate in case discussions, team meetings and project work.
About you
• Tertiary qualification in human services, social work, behavioural science, community services or equivalent experience, education and/or training.
• Experience working with and/or advocating for people with disability of all ages within a social justice framework.
• Knowledge of service options for people with disability and/or their supports.
• Ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies and procedures, with sound problem solving skills.
• High level interpersonal skills, confident communication, engagement and negotiation, plus excellent written communication and presentation skills.
• Strong administrative and computer skills, including experience with client/data management systems.
Essential requirements
• Current National Criminal History Certificate (less than 3 years old).
• Valid NDIS Worker Screening Clearance and Working with Children Blue Card.
Why join us?
• Increase your take-home pay with generous salary packaging options, including meal and entertainment benefits.
• Professional development through access to regular training and on-the-job projects.
• Be part of a collaborative and inclusive workplace where diversity is celebrated, and our culture is built on respect, dignity and fairness.
• Wellbeing support including access to an EAP service.
• Convenient and free parking available at both sites.
• Meaningfully impact the lives of vulnerable members of the community.
