Senior ETL Developer / Data Engineer

  • 6 Month Daily Rate Contract (+ Ext / Option for Permanent)
  • Hybrid / Melbourne CBD Position

Our client is going through a transformation of its data landscape, and they are seeking an experienced Senior ETL Developer to play a key role in this modernisation. You will be instrumental in re-engineering long-standing batch ETL processes that sit at the heart of our operational and analytical systems.

This position offers the opportunity to shape the future direction of our data platform while maintaining the reliability of our current environment. You will balance project-driven transformation work with business-as-usual support, ensuring smooth operations during the transition period.

Key Responsibilities

  • Redesign and rebuild core on-premise batch ETL processes to deliver improved performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Analyse, document, and enhance existing data pipelines developed in Pentaho and Oracle Stored Procedures.
  • Drive the redevelopment of ETL workflows using contemporary best practices while maintaining operational continuity.
  • Manage day-to-day data processing requirements, minimising disruption to business operations.
  • Operate within a highly secure on-premise IT environment, ensuring compliance with all corporate and industry data security standards.
  • Collaborate closely with data architects, analysts, and technical stakeholders to support ongoing platform evolution and strategic data initiatives.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of five years' experience as a Data Engineer or ETL Developer.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL (preferably PL/SQL ) with proven ability in performance tuning, query optimisation, indexing, and partitioning.
  • Strong experience with enterprise-grade ETL tools
  • Proven capability in designing, maintaining, and optimising batch ETL processes in on-premise environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to modernise legacy systems, focusing on architectural improvement and sustainability.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture, data modelling, and secure enterprise data frameworks.
  • Exposure to large-scale data modernisation or transformation programs preferred.
