
Financial Controller – SaaS/Technology

Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Preparation of Accounts
- Deliver timely and accurate monthly management accounts and reports.
- Prepare statutory accounts for the Group and subsidiaries in accordance with IFRS/AASB.
- Provide clear, relevant financial information to support strategic decision-making.
- Coordinate the annual audit process and manage relationships with external auditors.
2. Budgets, Forecasts and Financial Analysis
- Lead preparation of budgets, forecasts, and business plans.
- Monitor performance against budgets, reporting key variances with commentary.
- Support scenario modelling for business cases and investment decisions (e.g., new products, SaaS expansion, international growth).
- Manage cash flow forecasting and analysis.
3. Financial Management and Controls
- Oversee daily financial operations including receivables, payables, and cash management.
- Oversee fortnightly payroll preparation and supplier payments.
- Identify cost efficiencies and ensure strong working capital management.
- Strengthen the internal control environment and maintain the Finance Policies & Procedures Manual.
- Promote a proactive risk management culture.
4. Compliance and Taxation
- Oversee BAS, IAS, VAT, Payroll Tax, FBT, Workers' Compensation, and R&D claims.
- Ensure compliance with local and international tax obligations, including transfer pricing.
- Liaise with external advisers to ensure timely and compliant outcomes.
5. Human Resources
- Provide guidance on employment contracts, remuneration, and job descriptions.
- Oversee HR policy maintenance and alignment of HR costs with budgets.
6. Systems and Technology
- Lead system improvements and ensure integration between finance, ERP, and e-commerce platforms.
- Develop reporting tools and dashboards to support better decision-making.
- Identify and implement process and workflow enhancements.
7. Staff Leadership
- Manage, mentor, and develop finance team members across geographies.
- Encourage accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Drive efficiency and automation through change management initiatives.
8. General
- Keep the COO and Board informed of key financial and operational performance metrics.
- Stay current with industry and accounting developments.
- Undertake special projects as directed.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, with CPA/CA qualification.
- 5+ years' experience in a Financial Controller role, ideally within software, SaaS, or technology.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS/AASB, subscription and software revenue models, and royalty accounting.
- Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling.
- Hands-on experience with ERP and reporting systems (Sage X3, SAP, or equivalent).
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a small team across multiple locations.
