Head Teacher Technological and Applied Studies

Ryde Secondary College (Years 7-12) has an enrolment of around 1500 students, including 68% students from a non-English speaking background. It is a comprehensive high school with an academically selective cohort, an additional class for gifted and talented students, regular classes in each cohort and a support unit. The school has a strong focus on quality, explicit teaching, differentiated learning, Cultures of Thinking, collaborative teacher professional learning, social justice programs and a creative and positive learning environment. The school has extensive whole school, extracurricular, technology and applied sciences, sporting, STEM and creative and performing arts programs. This position would involve leadership of a diverse and innovative TAS faculty, and meaningful collaboration with key stakeholders within our school community to support student learning and wellbeing.
Selection CriteriaApplicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria:
- Demonstrated educational leadership with the capacity to drive curriculum development underpinned by data informed differentiation, quality assessment, and student engagement in learning
- Highly developed interpersonal and leadership skills to inspire and deliver quality, evidence-based teaching practices to maintain a culture of high expectations
- Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with the school leadership team to drive school improvement through the school's Strategic Excellence Plan
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain community partnerships in leading major faculty and whole school projects to facilitate student learning outcomes
Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
