About the role
This is a part-time position (20 hours per week) at the Hackham West Community Centre, located in Hackham West, SA 5163. As the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Senior Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting the local Indigenous community.
What you'll be doing
- Develop and deliver projects and programmes that support local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families to develop a strong foundation for school retention and educational outcomes
- Providing culturally appropriate support and referrals for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members
- Building strong relationships with local Indigenous organisations and community leaders
- Providing leadership in culturally safe practices and fostering understanding among Centre staff and the wider community
- Advocating for the needs of the local Indigenous community and ensuring their voices are heard
- Assisting with the daily operations and administration of the Centre as required
What we're looking for
- Demonstrated experience in a similar role supporting Indigenous communities
- Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and current issues
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport
- Proven track record in developing and delivering community programs and initiatives
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (e.g. Community Services, Social Work) or equivalent experience
- Commitment to principles of social justice, equity and inclusion
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently as required
