About the role

This is a part-time position (20 hours per week) at the Hackham West Community Centre, located in Hackham West, SA 5163. As the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Senior Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting the local Indigenous community.

What you'll be doing

  1. Develop and deliver projects and programmes that support local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families to develop a strong foundation for school retention and educational outcomes
  2. Providing culturally appropriate support and referrals for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members
  3. Building strong relationships with local Indigenous organisations and community leaders
  4. Providing leadership in culturally safe practices and fostering understanding among Centre staff and the wider community
  5. Advocating for the needs of the local Indigenous community and ensuring their voices are heard
  6. Assisting with the daily operations and administration of the Centre as required

What we're looking for

  1. Demonstrated experience in a similar role supporting Indigenous communities
  2. Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and current issues
  3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport
  4. Proven track record in developing and delivering community programs and initiatives
  5. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (e.g. Community Services, Social Work) or equivalent experience
  6. Commitment to principles of social justice, equity and inclusion
  7. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently as required
