Primary objective
Manage the delivery and reporting of the eradication of Browsing Ant within the Northern Territory in accordance with the nationally
agreed Response Plan.
Context statement
The National Browsing Ant Eradication Program (NBAEP) has been funded to eradicate the exotic invasive species Lepisiota frauenfeldi
from the NT. The NBAEP has been funded until June 2027 to manage current known areas of infestation, which includes the tracing,
surveillance and treatment of the pest to delimit and eradicate infestations.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Coordinate the tracing, surveillance, eradication and movement control activities and provide daily operational management for all
aspects of the program.
2. Deliver the objectives of the Response Plan in line with relevant legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
3. Provide regular reports on the progress against the Response Plan and on any emerging risks to the delivery of the operational
requirements of the Response Plan.
4. Ensure the operational activities of the program are technically sound and cost effective.
5. Ensure that Work Health and Safety Systems are current, that staff are adequately trained, and incidents are managed in accordance
with legislation and DAF procedures and policies.
6. Establish, develop and maintain productive collaborative relationships to ensure sound stakeholder engagement, including the
preparation of a high standard of correspondence.
7. Engage and manage contractors as required in the delivery of works for the program.
8. Manage a small team to meet project objectives.
9. Participate in biosecurity emergency responses.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven successful experience in program management, including the development and implementation of new initiatives and meeting
deadlines.
2. Demonstrated leadership skills in managing projects in local and remote locations to deliver response objectives.
- Proven ability and experience in managing, leading and motivating a small team to achieve desired outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability in developing high-level documents, including Ministerial Briefings, approvals, high level reports, and
correspondence.
5. Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to source relevant data, evaluate complex information, and deliver work in a
timely manner.
6. Sound knowledge in the use of computers and office software together with databases, project management packages in the
workplace.
7. Demonstrated high-level interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with people from
diverse cultures and influence outcomes.
8. Hold a current manual NT driver's licence.
Desirable
1. Knowledge and experience in biosecurity environments, response arrangements and associated documentation to support those
arrangements.
2. Qualifications relevant to the role such as qualifications in Agricultural Science, Environmental Science or other related disciplines,
or extensive relevant experience in a related field including plant or environmental biosecurity.
