Take the lead as Manager, Privacy and RTI at the NHVR, where you'll play a pivotal role in delivering our privacy strategy and driving organisation-wide impact. Based at our Newstead head office, you'll work within the Corporate Services team and partner closely with the Director of Governance, Risk and Privacy to lead the rollout of our privacy roadmap—embedding strong systems, streamlined processes, and building capability to meet both strategic priorities and legislative obligations.
With one direct report, this influential role offers a unique opportunity to shape how privacy and Right to Information are managed across the NHVR.
This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of an enterprise-wide function with significant strategic visibility and impact.
Primary Objectives
- Provide authoritative advice on privacy and right to information matters, ensuring alignment with the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) and other relevant frameworks, including the Right to Information Act, Public Records Act 2023 (Qld), and HVNL.
- Lead and continuously improve NHVR's privacy program, including policy development, privacy impact assessments, and training initiatives.
- Manage privacy incidents, data breach responses and reporting obligations, and maintain key compliance registers.
- Act as a delegated decision-maker under the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld).
- Build privacy awareness, mentor internal stakeholders, and promote ethical information management practices across the organisation.
- Drive systemic improvements, contribute to policy and legislative reviews, and support high-level reporting to senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver timely, practical and strategic privacy and RTI advice to all levels of the organisation.
- Ensure organisational compliance with privacy and information access legislation, including the development of compliant procedures, collection notices and tools.
- Investigate, assess and manage privacy breaches and mandatory data breach notifications in accordance with legislative obligations.
- Oversee privacy training and awareness initiatives across NHVR.
- Lead and resolve complex privacy issues, manage competing priorities and ensure delivery of high-quality outcomes within defined timeframes.
- Represent NHVR in external privacy and information access forums and maintain productive relationships with regulators and other agencies.
What You'll Bring
- In-depth knowledge and demonstrated application of the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) and associated legislation.
- Significant experience in privacy governance, including leading privacy programs, policies and compliance frameworks.
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships and influence stakeholders across all levels.
- Strong analytical, communication and leadership skills with a strategic mindset.
- Experience mentoring or leading small teams and managing enterprise-wide programs.
- A collaborative and proactive approach, with a focus on continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Qualifications in law, business, governance, privacy or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
- 5+ years' experience in end-to-end management of privacy obligations in a complex organisational environment.
- Experience engaging with regulators, particularly the Office of the Information Commissioner
- Qld Experience and prior working knowledge of the heavy vehicle industry and Regulatory compliance.
- Strong knowledge of privacy principles and expertise in their practical application, particularly under the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld).
- Demonstrated extensive experience in implementing governance processes and developing policies, procedures and governance documents (e.g. executive committee reports).
- An ability to build trust and influence at all levels of the organisation, through well-developed verbal and written communication.
- An ability to work cooperatively in a multi-disciplinary environment, to achieve best outcomes for NHVR.
The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) commenced operations in 2013 as the national entity responsible for regulating all vehicles in Australia over 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass. The NHVR minimises the compliance burden on the heavy vehicle transport industry, reduces duplication and inconsistences across state and territory borders, and ultimately for the heavy vehicle business with government in Australia.
