The Opportunity

We're seeking a proactive and highly experienced 
Health, Safety & Wellbeing Business Partner

to join Lort Smith in this important part time standalone role. You'll help ensure a safe and healthy workplace across all our business locations, supporting both clinical and non-clinical staff. You will leverage your deep expertise and knowledge of safety to implement strategies and policies across risk management, incident investigation, emergency preparedness, training, and WHS compliance as well as, develop a robust safety culture and process of continuous improvement.

What you will Do

Working with key stakeholders across the business, you'll be accountable for the full safety life cycle and be responsible for:

  • ensuring compliance with WHS legislation, codes, and developing policies.
  • conducting workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments; maintaining the risk register and developing strategies to minimise risks.
  • overseeing incident reporting and conducting investigations; identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • managing emergency preparedness planning and drills (including animal evacuation, spill response, etc.).
  • coordinating injury management, return-to-work programs, and managing workers' compensation claims.
  • developing and delivering safety & wellbeing training and induction programs.
  • designing and delivering wellbeing initiatives (e.g. mental health, stress, compassion fatigue).
  • partnering with leaders to embed safety culture and continuous improvement.
  • analysing safety and wellbeing data and preparing reports for the ELT.

What We're Looking For

  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent within WHS.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in complex safety environment; ideally with in animal or human health or similar complex environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applying safety laws, hazard identification, risk management and mandatory reporting to regulatory bodies such as WorkSafe Victoria.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting affected individuals.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting investigations to determine root causes, implementation of preventive measures, and organisation-wide learnings to prevent future occurrences
  • Demonstrated experience in injury management and return to work.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and training skills.
  • Expertise in psychological safety, mental health, and wellbeing programs would be well regarded.
