The Opportunity

Lithgow City Council has an exciting opportunity for a Part Time Human Resources Manager to join their team for a period of up to two (2) years.

Reporting to the Director of Finance & Governance you will be responsible for leading a team to deliver best practice advice to our staff to ensure compliance of Council's Human Resources function.

More specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Provide advice to Council's Executive Leadership Team and employees regarding HR matters
  • Ensure compliance with industrial laws, awards and related requirements
  • Assume the lead role in Change Management Projects
  • Administer the Council salary system
  • Coordinate staff recruitment and selection
  • Advise on the Council's Payroll System
  • Manage workers compensation claims and co-ordination / rehabilitation of injured workers
  • Monitor Anti-Discrimination and Employment Legislation and Council's HR Policies & procedures
  • Coordinate staff training and development
  • Manage Council's Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
  • Other duties and ad-hoc projects as required
About you

The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or a related field
  • Relevant work-related experience in a human resource environment
  • Experience in providing high-level human resources advice to management and staff regarding disciplinary matters, performance management, change management ,and other matters in accordance with HR policies, procedures and legislation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead and work in a team environment
  • A strong self-motivation and demonstrated initiative in approaching the functions of the position
  • Experience in coordinating staff training
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Programs and HRIS Systems
  • Thorough working knowledge of employment legislation
  • Ability to ensure a high degree of confidentiality
  • Commitment to Work Health and Safety and Risk Management procedures
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of honesty and integrity

In addition, an ideal candidate would have:

  • Degree/Diploma in Human Resource Management.
  • Experience/understanding of Payroll processes.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Workplace Assessment
