About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity to work at Box Hill Institute, with multiple roles to fill as our Koorie Student Support Officer. These roles are ongoing, based at both our Box Hill and Lilydale Campus'. This position reports directly to the Senior Koorie Liaison Officer, and sits within the Student Life area of the Student Experience division.
Student Life is an innovative unit of BHI which supports the delivery of education and training to students through a diverse set of services, programs, resources and activities designed to help students make the most of their time at BHI and succeed with their study and life goals. Some of the carefully planned services, target the needs of all students while others target a particular group of students including youth, students with disabilities, International students and Indigenous students.
What you'll do:
- Provide a range of welfare monitoring and intervention support to ensure the success of BHI Indigenous students to commence, continue and complete training
- Connect BHI to the training and employment needs of Indigenous individuals, groups and communities
- Support stakeholders including teachers, students, and other team members to achieve outcomes across educational excellence and retention and support of Indigenous students
- Deliver highly-valued support strategies to improve student retention and success and ensure an excellent student experience for students of the Institute
- Work closely with other members of the Student Life team to achieve its operational plan
About you:

- Work collaboratively with teachers and managers at all levels to engage, retain, and build the success of Indigenous students
- Victorian Working with Children Check clearance
- National Police Check clearance
Qualifications and experience:
- Relevant post-secondary qualification in education, community services, or a related field, along with experience working with Aboriginal communities and knowledge of Koorie culture and history.
- Proven ability to build relationships with Indigenous students and stakeholders, fostering positive educational pathways and cultural safety.
- Capacity to manage pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines while maintaining effective communication and record-keeping.
- Experience in developing tailored student support strategies and adapting action plans to meet individual needs within a complex organizational context.
