The Opportunity
We're seeking an experienced Lab Manager to oversee operations at a world-class engineering laboratory in Sydney's inner west. This is a key leadership role focused on driving quality, safety, team development, and continuous improvement in a highly technical environment.
In this hands-on role, you'll be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the lab while contributing to strategic planning and long-term capability growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily lab operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and high-quality output
- Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team of technicians and engineers
- Oversee financial performance, including budgeting and cost control
- Implement continuous improvement strategies and expand testing capabilities
- Ensure compliance with WHS regulations and internal controls
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver seamless project outcomes
- Provide reporting and insights to senior leadership
- Develop and execute staff development and succession planning initiatives
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Business, Engineering, Science, or related field – or 5+ years of equivalent industry experience
- Proven leadership experience in a technical or engineering environment
- Strong people management, communication, and mentoring skills
- Financial acumen and ability to manage departmental budgets
- Experience with lab operations, workflow planning, and compliance
- Ability to work independently and make strategic operational decisions
- Knowledge of WHS legislation and best practices
