About the role

You will be responsible for the efficient provision and operation of laboratory services, including the preparation and maintenance of equipment, resources, and facilities. Working closely with academic and professional staff, this role supports teaching, research, and practical learning. This role will predominantly be working with the Physiotherapy, Exercise and Sport Science and Clinical Exercise Physiology Courses.Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical operations support to academic staff, researchers, and students during practical sessions and experiments.
  • Demonstrate proper operating techniques for laboratory equipment and assist with technical instructions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions to ensure smooth laboratory operations.
  • Advise and assist Academic, Research staff and (HDR) students with equipment needs.
  • Supervise technical projects for small groups, dissertation projects and small workshop classes.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory resource statements, preparation notes and ensure that laboratories are prepared for school activities.
  • Manage calibration, maintenance and ensure equipment is safe, functional and ready use.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory, equipment conditions, maintenance schedules, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain safety documentation, including risk assessments, safety audits, and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and documentation for audits, assessments, and compliance checks.
  • Organise to service specialised equipment.
  • Liaise with external agencies and suppliers for the ordering and receiving laboratory materials and equipment.
  • Implement new safety procedures and advise staff and students when required.
Qualifications, skills & experience
  • Relevant tertiary degree or a qualification such as an advanced diploma with at least 1 year of relevant experience, a diploma with 2 years of experience, a Certificate IV with extensive experience, a post-trades certificate with more than 2 years of experience as a technician, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven laboratory experience, preferably in tertiary or higher education sectors
  • In-depth knowledge of laboratory operations, equipment maintenance, and safety protocols, with experience demonstrating and using equipment in a learning environment.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining equipment inventory including its servicing
  • Proven record of preparing high quality documentation and reporting.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities to address technical issues and ensure safe laboratory practices.
  • High level of competency in various software packages including Microsoft Office Suite, student administration systems.
