About the position:

The Assistant Water and Wastewater Operator will assist in monitoring, controlling and operating Toowoomba Regional Council's various Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants, bores, reservoirs and pumping stations to maintain a safe and reliable water supply.

  • This is a permanent full-time position based at Clifton.
  • The base salary for this position is $1, $1,298.72 gross per week ($33.09-$34.18 per hour), plus 17.5% annual leave loading and up to 12.65% superannuation.
  • In addition to the base wage rate, variable allowances are available (for example –on call, overtime).

About the Water Operations Branch:

Water Operations forms part of the Water and Waste Services Group (WWSG), which also includes Water Infrastructure Services, Water Project Services and Waste Services. Water Operations is responsible for the operation of Council's water and wastewater pumping, treatment, and distribution systems to ensure customer service standards and legislative compliance obligations are met.

The team encompasses personnel from various areas of engineering, operations and compliance. Our team believes in fostering a positive work culture based around quality outcomes, effective communication, transparency, professionalism and respect.

How to be successful in this position:

  • Certificate III Water Industry Operations, or willing to gain within 24 months.
  • WHS Competency (White Card) for CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry, or equivalent .
  • Self Contained Breathing Apparatus attainment, Confined Space Entry Certificate (including Breathing Apparatus), High Risk Work Licence for 'LF' Forklift Truck, and Senior First Aid Certificate held or attained within 6 months.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate water and wastewater treatment plants and related infrastructure.
  • Understanding of water quality requirements for the safe supply of drinking water.
  • Understanding of wastewater treatment requirements.
  • Demonstrated computer skills.
  • Commitment to teamwork.
