Chief Executive Officer @ Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine
1 day ago
- Statutory Authority with world leading expertise in forensic medicine and science
- Leverage the organisation's significant capability for long term sustainability
- Bring a strategic, innovative and transformational approach
The Position
In September 2024 the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine Act 2024 was enacted. This new Act strengthens the organisation's governance arrangements, promotes improved engagement with stakeholders, and embeds training and research as core VIFM functions.
Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will lead the organisation at a pivotal time to achieve its statutory and strategic objectives, prioritising people, embracing change, compliance, risk management, governance, and financial stewardship.
Success in this role requires a system thinking leader who can build trusted relationships with key stakeholders including Government Departments, Courts, Victoria Police, and other organisations in related fields and community representatives, such as in health.
The ideal candidate will be a values-driven leader with accomplishment in leading complex, purpose-driven organisations, ideally the management of health, legal or justice services. With executive experience working with a Board, the appointee will demonstrate strategic acumen, strong financial and governance capability, and the ability to lead constructively through change. Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership skills are essential, as is a commitment to fostering an inclusive, high-performing culture.
The Organisation
The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) serves the community and the courts by providing the justice system with independent forensic pathology, medical and scientific expertise which underpins safe convictions and appropriate acquittals. The VIFM is a statutory agency within the Justice Portfolio of the Victorian Government. Our doctors and scientists investigate deaths reported to the Coroner, examine alleged offenders and medically assess, treat and support victims of crime. Our services are provided alongside teaching and research, working together to safeguard our evidence in court.
The VIFM also houses and operates the Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria (DTBV) which supports patients and their families by providing human tissues to medical specialists and Victorian hospitals for transplantation and medical research.
