This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of domestic building dispute resolution at the BPC

About the Role:

As Chief Dispute Resolution Officer, you will lead the Dispute Resolution Division, overseeing senior managers and teams of Building Assessors, Legal Practitioners, and Conciliators. You will be responsible for administering the legislative scheme under the Domestic Building Contracts Act 1995, ensuring fair, timely, and effective resolution of domestic building disputes.

This executive role reports directly to the Commissioner and CEO and contributes to the strategic leadership of the BPC during a time of significant reform. While reporting to the executive, the Chief Dispute Resolution Officer maintains independence in decisions related to a particular disputes.

What we are looking for:

You are a seasoned executive with:

  • Extensive experience in dispute resolution, legal practice, or regulatory environments.
  • Strong understanding of domestic building legislation and consumer protection frameworks.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and drive strategic outcomes.
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and decision-making skills.
  • A commitment to public service, integrity, and continuous improvement.
  • Hold relevant tertiary qualification.

About the BPC

The Building & Plumbing Commission (BPC) is Victoria's new regulator for building and plumbing.

It brings together the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV), and the domestic building insurance function of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) into one organisation.

Key functions related to building and plumbing regulation will come together under one roof, including registration, inspection and compliance, practitioner discipline, dispute resolution, and domestic building insurance. These services will now part of the BPC and will be fully integrated over the next 12 months.
