About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Manager – Accounting to join our Sydney-based BAS Compliance Services team. This role plays a key part in managing and uplifting the performance of our accounting delivery teams, working closely with Managers and Directors to ensure high-quality client outcomes.
As an Assistant Manager, you will oversee end-to-end workflow management, team capability, and delivery efficiency across a portfolio of compliance clients. You'll act as the bridge between our accounting teams, driving quality assurance, process improvement, and operational excellence. You will be responsible for the final signing off of financial documents prior to presentation to client.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the offshore accounting delivery team, including workflow planning, task allocation, and quality review.
- Ensure compliance deliverables and lodgements (BAS, ITR, FBT, financial statements) are completed accurately and on time.
- Map, manage, and improve end-to-end accounting workflows to enhance efficiency and performance.
- Coach, mentor, and train the team to Modoras' standards.
- Act as the primary conduit between onshore leadership and offshore delivery teams, ensuring transparency and consistency in performance and communication.
- Conduct technical reviews of more complex accounting work and provide escalation support where required.
- Monitor team performance metrics, drive continuous improvement, and identify opportunities to increase accuracy, timeliness, and profitability.
- Partner with onshore leaders to plan resourcing, manage delivery cycles, and ensure alignment with business goals.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Completed CA or CPA qualification (or equivalent).
- Minimum 6–8 years' experience in accounting, business services, or compliance within public practice.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing distributed or offshore teams.
- Proven technical knowledge of Australian accounting and taxation requirements, including BAS, ITR, and FBT.
- Strong process improvement and workflow management experience.
- Excellent time management, communication, and critical thinking skills.
- High attention to detail, methodical and organised, with a strong delivery focus.
Desirable:
- Certificate IV in Leadership and Management.
- Experience using workflow tools and performance management systems.
- Public Practice Certificate and/or Registered Tax Agent status.
- Experience with process mapping and team capability uplift initiatives.
