Infection Control Coordinator

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Infection Control Coordinator to lead and implement the hospital's infection prevention and control program.

This role ensures compliance with relevant legislation, accreditation standards, and best practice guidelines to minimise the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and promote a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

This is a permanent part-time position (0.4 FTE) with flexible working hours between Monday and Friday, offering a great opportunity for work-life balance while contributing to the hospital's commitment to safety and clinical excellence.

Main duties include:

  • Develops, implements, and maintains the hospital's infection control policies and procedures in accordance with current standards and evidence-based practice.
  • Monitors and evaluates infection control practices across all departments.
  • Provides leadership and guidance on infection control issues to all staff.
  • Conducts surveillance of healthcare-associated infections and report trends, risks, and outcomes to management and relevant committees.
  • Coordinates infection control audits, inspections, and compliance reporting.
  • Provides infection prevention education and training to clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Promotes awareness of standard and transmission-based precautions.
  • Contributes to clinical governance activities, including quality improvement, accreditation, and policy review.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential infection control records and data.
  • Represents the hospital at relevant committees, working groups, and external forums as required.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse (Division 1).
  • Postgraduate qualification or certificate in Infection Prevention and Control.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of NSQHS Standard 3 – Preventing and Controlling Infections.
  • Demonstrated experience in infection prevention and control within an acute healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of quality improvement initiatives and experience of the Australian Council of Healthcare Standards Accreditation process.
  • Demonstrated high level of communication and interpersonal skills at an individual and team level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in alignment with South Perth Hospital's mission, vision, and values, with a proven ability to model values-based behaviours in the workplace.

Desirable:

  • Certificate 4 Training and Assessment or demonstrated experience delivering training and education.
