About IMC

IMC is a registered Australian higher education institute with three campuses: Sydney, Perth, and Hobart. The Sydney campus functions as the administrative centre. The Perth campus is the largest in terms of student enrolments. IMC is a self-accrediting institute in the field of Management and Commerce, and also offers courses in Law and IT. The Business School is the largest, making up 80% of total enrolments.

The Role

The Dean of the Business School will hold a senior academic and operational leadership role at IMC while located at the Perth campus. This role encompasses academic innovation, operational management, community engagement, and advancement of teaching and research quality. The Dean serves as an ex officio member of the Academic Board, Course Advisory Committee, and Learning and Teaching Committee, participating remotely as required.

The Dean reports to the Deputy President based in Sydney and works closely with the Director of Teaching and Learning, the Director of Research and Scholarship, and other senior leaders to ensure alignment between campus operations and institutional goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the academic planning and development of Business School programs in response to evolving industry, student, and regulatory expectations.
  • Contribute to cross-campus academic integration and innovation in Business School courses.
  • Liaise with Academic Support staff in Hobart and Sydney to manage academic staffing, timetabling, and workload allocation across all campus locations to ensure teaching requirements are met each term.
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with IMC academic policies, the Higher Education Standards Framework (HESF), the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and TEQSA regulatory directives concerning the Business School's courses.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Learning and Teaching, lead quality assurance initiatives and address any deficiencies arising from student feedback, graduate surveys or regulatory assessments.
  • Lead performance reviews, professional development, and teaching quality assurance at the Perth campus.
  • Contribute to Business School course reviews and manage accreditations with professional organisations.
  • Encourage a culture of scholarship within the School, mentoring Perth academic staff in research and publication.
  • Work with IMC's senior management to build articulation pathways and academic partnerships with Australian and international institutions.
  • Support course promotion and student recruitment activities, ensuring messaging accurately reflects the School's academic strengths.
  • Represent the Business School in local forums, industry panels, and recruitment events.
  • Promote active engagement with local and national industries, government agencies, and professional bodies.
  • Contribute to budget planning and resource allocation to optimise academic and administrative efficiency across three campus locations.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral qualification (AQF Level 10) or equivalent in a business-related discipline.
  • Demonstrated academic leadership experience at the department, faculty, or institutional level in an Australian university or private sector equivalent.
  • Strong record of achievement in teaching and research relevant to business education.
  • Knowledge of  Australia's higher education regulatory framework, TEQSA pronouncements and accreditation requirements of relevant professional organisations.
