We're seeking an experienced freelance textile designer to join our creative team on key seasonal projects, starting with our Summer 2026/2027 beach towel collection.

This is an exciting opportunity to work remotely with a small but passionate team of creative professionals who bring over 50 years of combined experience in the homewares industry. You'll collaborate with a Head of Product who understands the Australian market inside out and will value your creative input. This is a fantastic opportunity for a designer who understands the unique aesthetic of the Australian market. We're looking for someone who can spot what's working globally and translate it into designs that resonate with the sophisticated, relaxed, and timeless tastes of our customers.

What you'll do:

  • Provide insight into emerging colour palettes and design trends, with an initial focus on beach towels for Summer 2026/27.
  • Create original and visually appealing beach towel designs.
  • Work flexibly: sometimes interpreting moodboards/briefs, other times pitching your own concepts.
  • Collaborate with our product team to ensure designs align with the Canningvale brand identity and are production-ready.
  • Deliver concept artwork, and once approved, deliver production-ready artwork in Adobe Illustrator
    (with Pantone references, product specifications etc).

About You:

  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator with solid knowledge of textile production requirements.
  • Strong eye for colour, pattern, and commercial appeal.
  • Portfolio demonstrates textile / surface pattern design expertise (homewares preferred).
  • Knowledge of homewares, lifestyle, or fashion accessories is ideal.
  • Reliable, organised, and comfortable working freelance on a project basis (approx. 2–4 projects per year).
  • Responsive with excellent communication skills.
  • Melbourne-based or able to travel occasionally for collaboration.

Project Details:

  • Initial project-based contract, with potential for ongoing collaboration (e.g., patterned bed linen, table linen, seasonal colour palettes).
  • Compensation to be negotiated based on experience and scope.
