Recycling Facility Manager

The Recycling Facility Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our construction and demolition (C&D) waste recycling facilities on the Central Coast and Newcastle region.
This role ensures that materials are processed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all environmental and workplace regulations.
You will coordinate staff, equipment, suppliers, and customers while implementing operational strategies set by management.
Key Responsibilities1. Operational Oversight
- Supervise daily operations, including sorting, processing, and disposal of C&D waste.
- Manage waste streams to ensure wood, metal, concrete, and other materials are processed correctly.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized facility, including waste storage areas.
- Oversee and maintain recycling equipment (crushers, shredders, sorting machines) to ensure maximum safety and efficiency.
2. Team Management
- Hire, train, and supervise staff, including sorting crews, machine operators, and general labor.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and ensure adherence to best practices and PPE requirements.
- Plan and manage staff rosters to ensure adequate coverage during busy periods.
3. Compliance & Regulations
- Ensure operations comply with local, state, and federal waste management and environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate reporting and documentation for audits and inspections.
4. Customer & Vendor Relations
- Act as the primary contact for contractors and businesses delivering C&D waste.
- Resolve customer queries and ensure efficient service delivery.
- Build strong working relationships with suppliers and vendors.
5. Environmental Impact Management
- Lead sustainability initiatives to increase diversion rates from landfill.
- Track and report recycling performance, identifying areas for improvement.
6. Health & Safety
- Implement and enforce workplace health and safety protocols.
- Monitor and ensure correct use of PPE across all staff.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
7. Continuous Improvement
- Review and refine operational processes for greater efficiency and productivity.
- Encourage and act on staff feedback to improve procedures and workplace culture.
- Ensure production targets are met while minimizing environmental impact and operational costs.
The successful applicant will have:
- A strong background in waste recycling, preferably within C&D waste.
- Proven experience managing teams in a fast-paced, industrial environment.
- Solid knowledge of workplace safety practices and environmental regulations.
