Position InformationTamworth West Public School (P3) is a progressive, innovative, and well-presented school located near the central business district of Tamworth. The staff are caring and supportive, enthusiastically embracing and implementing innovations across many areas of school life to ensure the best possible learning opportunities for students.
The projected enrolment for 2026 is 356 students, including 118 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and 6 students from a language background other than English. The school caters to a diverse range of student needs, providing a quality education within a creative and nurturing environment. There will be 4 support classes in 2026.
The school's inclusive and student-centred approach fosters a positive, spacious, and well-equipped learning environment. Wellbeing is a key priority, with strategic whole-school wellbeing processes designed to support all students, enabling them to connect, succeed, thrive, and learn. The school collaborates actively with its P&C Association and engages extensively with the broader school community.
Tamworth West Public School actively supports Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) and the Resilience Project, promoting the development of respectful, resilient, and responsible students. The school teaches positive mental health strategies to help students become happier and more resilient.
The school also implements the Newcastle Thriving Schools Program, focusing on Quality Teaching Rounds and in 2025 focused on cognitive load theory, and explicit teaching practices to enhance instructional quality.
A strong commitment to Aboriginal education is evident through the continued teaching and learning of the Gamilaraay language. The establishment of a junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) in 2025 further reflects this commitment. Have the demonstrated ability to foster collaboration within the wider school community, and develop partnerships to improve student outcomes, build a sense of belonging and embed and monitor quality wellbeing programs
High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school's RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P3 for 2025 and also for 2026.
