An excellent opportunity is now available to commence a full-time, five-year apprenticeship as a Dual Trade Electrical and Instrumentation Control Apprentice based at Esso's Longford (Gippsland) Gas Plant. In this apprenticeship, you will be supported and trained by a team of experienced and skilled tradespeople, have access to WPC Group's industry leading mentoring program and work towards two nationally recognised qualifications (Certificate III in Instrumentation and Control & Certificate III in Electrotechnology), at TAFE.

The Role:

  • Commencing January 2026
  • Provide support in the execution and upkeep of electrical and instrumentation systems
  • Conduct routine and corrective maintenance, including repairs and diagnostics
  • Assist with commissioning activities for various electrical and control systems

Support and execution (including maintenance, commissioning, diagnosis and servicing) on the following systems:

  • High and Low Voltage (HV/LV) electrical distribution systems
  • Motor Control Centres (MCCs) and related subcircuits
  • Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and PLC-based shutdown systems
  • Process analysers, metering systems, and control instrumentation
  • Fire and Gas detection systems
  • Lighting and general power systems
  • Participate actively in risk assessments in accordance with safety protocols
  • Record and analyse physical and chemical data related to system performance.
  • Continue professional development in emerging electronic and automation technologies

  • Physically fit to meet the demands of the role, good hand-eye coordination

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions
  • Proven ability to work in a safe manner
  • Pre-apprenticeship in Electrical, Instrumentation and Control (or a similar field)
  • Work experience preferred however not essential
  • Previous hand tool experience / exposure is preferred, however not essential
