About the Role
Whitehaven Coal have a new exciting opportunity in our Health, Safety, Systems, Contracts and Training team for a Risk Specialist. The role is responsible for implementing and monitoring the risk management system, monitoring critical control performance, conducting risk assessments and coaching others on the correct use of risk management tools at Blackwater Mine.
What you will do
- Implement and identify opportunities to improve the risk management processes on site.
- Ensure the WHC Risk Framework supports the growing organisation and seek to develop the organisation's maturity in risk management and decision making.
- Champion and coach others on the accepted risk management processes.
- Work with other departments, managers, and coal mine workers to ensure risk is managed effectively and monitored in alignment with internal and external requirements.
- Coach risk and control owners in critical control performance, monitoring and principal hazard and material risk evaluation.
- Support improved health and safety performance and risk governance through engagement in the planning cycle.
- Monitor risk related data to identify emerging areas of concern and opportunities for continual improvement.
- Contribute to the development of Site Systems annual priorities and complete projects to achieve department KPIs.
What you will need
- Mining industry experience (highly desirable), with proven experience in risk management.
- Experience in the facilitation of risk assessments (broad brush risk assessment, WRAC, bowtie etc).
- Demonstrated skill in health and safety database management.
- Demonstrated stakeholder engagement across all levels on mine site.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work within a team providing a customer-focused advisory service.
- Proficient computer skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Relevant qualifications in Health & Safety, Law, Risk Management, Engineering or a related field are preferred.
- Hold or be able to obtain Coal Board Medical, Standard 11 (essential) and RIIRIS402E Carry Out the Risk Management Process (desirable).
