About the role
As the Ganger Class 1, you are integral to the success of V/Line's Assets & Maintenance Group.
Reporting to the Track Supervisor, you'll play a critical leadership role in maintaining and renewing V/Line's rail infrastructure across Victoria. You'll supervise a dedicated team, ensuring track safety and operational efficiency through hands-on maintenance and inspection activities. This role offers variety, with work across different locations and shifts, and the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the safety and reliability of regional rail services.
Key accountabilities include:
- Oversee maintenance of rail reserves, crossings, and pedestrian paths.
- Replace and renew track materials including sleepers, rail, ballast, and fastenings.
- Monitor and inspect track conditions, identifying and mitigating risks to ensure infrastructure safety.
- Supervising contractors and internal crews to ensure work meets required standards
- Responding to structural emergencies as requiredEnsuring compliance with safety procedures, technical standards, and reporting requirements
- Complete reports, timesheets, requisitions, and material returns.
- Foster teamwork and build strong relationships across V/Line.
- Support customer-first initiatives and contribute to continuous improvement.
About you
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
Current Driver's Licence
Cert 3 Rail Infrastructure
Safe Working Certificate Level 3
High Rail operator (level 4) highly desirable
