The Opportunity:

Vitrinite is seeking an experienced and strategic General Manager - Environment & Approvals to lead our environmental compliance and regulatory approvals across current and future coal mining operations in Queensland.

This pivotal role will be responsible for managing all aspects of environmental performance, ensuring full compliance with State and Commonwealth legislation, and overseeing the successful delivery of environmental approvals for new projects. The role will be based at our Gold Coast – Currumbin office with travel to site in the Bowen Basin, central Queensland, as required.

Key Responsibilities:

As the General Manager - Environment & Approvals, you will play a critical leadership role in ensuring Vitrinite's environmental performance and regulatory compliance across all operations. Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading and overseeing all aspects of environmental compliance, including monitoring, reporting, and investigations.
• Driving the strategy and execution of environmental approvals for greenfield developments and brownfield expansion projects at both State and Commonwealth levels.
• Managing proactive engagement and relationships with State and Federal regulatory bodies.
• Overseeing Estimated Rehabilitation Cost (ERC) assessments and compliance.
• Developing and implementing Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure Plans (PRCPs).
• Managing Environmental Authorities (EAs) and Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act referrals.
• Coordinating the development and delivery of State and Federal biodiversity offset requirements.
• Leading and mentoring a site-based environmental team, fostering a culture of accountability and operational excellence.
• Collaborating closely with operations to ensure environmental considerations are integrated into day-to-day activities and decision making.
• Providing strategic input into life-of-mine planning and forecasting, with a focus on long-term approvals.

About the Candidate:

The successful candidate will possess extensive experience in environmental management within the Queensland mining sector, with demonstrated expertise in regulatory compliance, approvals, and team leadership. Essential qualifications include:

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.
• 15+ years' experience in environmental management within the Queensland mining industry, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
• In-depth knowledge of Queensland and Commonwealth environmental legislation and mining regulatory frameworks.
• Proven track record in managing environmental teams and complex environmental approvals/compliance processes.
• GIS skills not essential but highly valued.

Successful candidates:

• Must have the right to work and live in Australia.
• May be required to complete background screening which may include a criminal check and validation of qualifications.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening.
