Saltbush is seeking a dedicated and culturally aware Trainer to join our team in Darwin.

Position Details:

Location: Darwin

Employment Type: Permanent Fulltime

Excellent Remuneration: $100k + 12% super + salary packaging + 5 weeks annual leave

Reports To: RTO Manager

Hours: Normal business hours, with flexibility for additional hours as needed

Travel: Occasional travel to other Saltbush service locations

The Role: Saltbush is seeking a passionate Trainer to deliver the 11055NAT Course in Mentoring for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Mentors, a nationally accredited qualification designed to strengthen culturally informed mentoring, leadership and resilience skills within communities and workplaces.

This course has been developed from decades of refining and reviewing targeted mentoring and coaching skills required to best support many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander jobseekers into paid employment and team members to achieve their career objectives.

The role is ideal for someone who is not only a skilled trainer but also a culturally grounded mentor who empowers others through strengths-based learning and community connection.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

To ensure success in your role as Trainer, you will:

Training Delivery & Facilitation

  • Deliver an Aboriginal-focused mentoring training program to individuals, community members and organisations, including internal and external learners.
  • Adapt delivery techniques to support adult learning principles and meet the diverse needs of learners, including those from cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Assessment & Documentation

  • Prepare and manage all required physical and digital resources to enable seamless program delivery and learner engagement.
  • Support the ongoing development and refinement of training materials in consultation with Aboriginal Elders, community representatives and other stakeholders.
  • Support other trainer and learners in familiarisation and implementation of newly developed materials, as required.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and audit-ready learner documentation, including assessment tools, results, progress tracking, and feedback.
  • Collaborate with the RTO administration team to ensure end-to-end compliance across all learner files and records.

Learner Experience & Support

  • Mentor and guide course participants as they build confidence in applying mentoring practices in their communities and workplace.
  • Identify barriers to learning and proactively implement strategies to promote learner retention, participation, and successful completion.
  • Build a positive, respectful training environment that fosters confidence, growth, and employability.
  • Engage participants through storytelling, yarning and culturally relevant methodologies.

Compliance & Continuous Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all training and assessment activities comply with the current Standards for RTOs, ASQA guidelines, the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), and Saltbush policies.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and validation of Training and Assessment Strategies (TAS), assessment tools, and learning materials.
  • Participate in internal audits, validation sessions, and professional moderation activities as part of ongoing quality improvement.
  • Provide structured reports on learner and course progress, challenges and success stories.

Stakeholder Engagement & Industry Relevance

  • Engage with employers, industry bodies, community groups, and program partners to ensure training content remains current, practical, and aligned with workforce needs.
  • Act as a professional ambassador for Saltbush at forums, employer meetings, stakeholder workshops, and industry events.
  • Seek and incorporate stakeholder feedback to inform program delivery and improve learner outcomes.
  • Drive learner enrolments by engaging employers, industry contacts and referral partners, in collaboration with the RTO Manager.
  • Travel to regional and remote communities as required.

Professional Development & Accountability

  • Maintain current industry skills, qualifications, and relevant licences required for the delivery and assessment of assigned units.
  • Actively participate in professional development, industry upskilling, and trainer/assessor networks to remain vocationally and pedagogically competent.
  • Meet individual and team performance targets related to enrolments, learner engagement, completion rates, and feedback metrics, as outlined in the Training Services strategic plan.

What You Bring, Essential Criteria:

  • Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
  • Hold a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent, compliant with the national requirements for delivering and assessing vocational education and training or currently completing this qualification.
  • Completion of the 11055NAT Course in Mentoring for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Mentors or willingness to complete
  • Demonstrated experience in training and development within a structured program environment.
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and training facilitation techniques.
  • Experience in developing and implementing structured training materials or a willingness to learn
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring, leadership, education or community development.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in culturally diverse environments, demonstrating empathy, respect and cultural awareness with the delivery of services.
  • High-level verbal, written, digital and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to engage and support diverse learners.
  • Strong ability to prioritise tasks, meet KPIs, manage competing deadlines and work well under pressure while maintaining quality standards.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team environment.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working within Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander training or employment services.
  • Understanding of Saltbush programs.
  • Previous experience delivering accredited or non-accredited training.
  • Previous experience in program development and implementation.
