About Mt Athur Coal
Mt Arthur Coal is an open-cut coal mine 100 per cent owned by BHP. Located in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales it's the largest producer of energy coal in the region, operating alongside olive growers, wine makers, horse breeders and the nearby residential community of Muswellbrook.
Our greatest asset is and has always been our people and communities, which is why we are committed to working together on our Pathway to a program to responsibly close Mt Arthur Coal. We are about doing the right thing and working with everyone to co-create a shared vision for the future of the region.
About The Role
At BHP Mt Arthur Coal, we are committed to delivering a safe, responsible, and value-driven transition and closure program. We are seeking a highly capable and strategic Transition and Closure PMO Principal to oversee the governance and performance of our NSW Energy Coal (NSWEC) transition and closure portfolio.
This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of mine closure, driving critical milestones, and ensuring alignment with BHP's closure vision and long-term strategic objectives.
About You
You are a strategic thinker and experienced program leader who thrives in complex, fast-paced environments. You bring a strong mix of governance, delivery, and stakeholder engagement skills, and are passionate about driving meaningful outcomes.
You'll Bring
- Deep knowledge of project lifecycle methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid).
- Proven experience in program and project delivery, with a focus on benefits realisation and continuous improvement.
- Strong capability in performance reporting, including dashboard and KPI design.
- Expertise in governance frameworks, risk management, and compliance.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
- A data-driven mindset and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Hold a Project/Program Management certification (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP).
- Knowledge or experience in mine closure planning or execution.
On Offer to You
This is a unique opportunity to have a rewarding career in a sought-after lifestyle location. Mt Arthur is a large, open-cut truck shovel operation, providing you with an opportunity to develop innovative solutions to technical problems.
Based in the scenic Hunter Valley, you will be minutes away from world-class restaurants and vineyards and a short distance away from the iconic beaches of Newcastle and Central Coast.
You will benefit from a rewarding career path and an excellent remuneration package inclusive of competitive salary, performance bonus, employee share options and a relocation package to take up a residential role in the Hunter Valley.
Supporting a Diverse Workforce
At BHP, we recognise that we are strengthened by diversity. We are committed to providing a work environment in which everyone is included, treated fairly and with respect. We are an Equal Opportunity employer and we encourage applications from women and Indigenous people.
We know there are many aspects of our employees' lives that are important, and work is only one of these, so we offer benefits to enable your work to fit with your life.
