The Opportunity

Peninsula Private Hospital is seeking an experienced and dedicated Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) to lead and oversee the Surgical Ward. This position offers the opportunity to provide leadership and direction while ensuring the efficient delivery of evidence-based nursing care in alignment with the hospital's strategic, operational, and business goals.

This is a Full-time position of 76 hours per fortnight.

Peninsula Private Hospital is undergoing some exciting developments including a redevelopment project that will grow the Perioperative department to 4 theatres, 2 procedure rooms, and a new CSSD department The planned completion is September 2025 with our current capabilities expected to double by A new 5-bed High Dependency Unit is also scheduled to open in January 2026.

As the Nurse Unit Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide operational leadership and management of the Medical and Rehabilitation Ward.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care while managing human, financial, and material resources.
  • Actively participate in quality improvement and accreditation processes, adhering to National Safety & Quality Healthcare Standards (NSQHS) and Workplace Health and Safety protocols.
  • Support and mentor less experienced nursing staff, promoting continuous learning and development.
  • Ensure a safe and effective work environment through active management of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) concerns

Selection Criteria:

  • Current Registration with AHPRA
  • Minimum 3 years previous experience at NUM level or equivalent
  • Experience in the Acute setting
  • Compliance with ACQSHC National standards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A strong commitment to developing in a management role
  • A commitment to a high standard of clinical and customer focused care
  • High degree of computer literacy including MS office and various data bases
  • Ability to work cohesively within a team environment
  • Proven time management and prioritisation skills
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge base in labour management
  • Demonstrated HR management experience
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Strong understanding of patient flow

About Us

With 60 inpatients Surgical, Medical and Rehabilitation beds, a rehabilitation gym and 3 operating theatres located on the idyllic Redcliffe Peninsula our facility averages 760 admissions per month. Specialties include orthopaedics, general surgery, urology, gynaecology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology and internal medicine and the delivery of leading rehabilitation services and programs on the Brisbane Northside.
