Family Support worker assists and facilitates supervised visits and building respectful and professional relationships with separated families. Family support worker ensures that children feel safe and supported during supervised visits, respite or mentoring. As part of Safe Balance Children's Contact Service (CCS) team, the Family support worker is present with the family while they have supervised visits at our centers or out in community.

Safe Balance has two Contact Centre's Mandurah and Marangaroo.

  • SCHADS Award Pay rate: $32.88 per hour

  • Hours per fortnight: Open hours

  • Applicants must be able to work alternate weekends

  • Regular weekend work is required as part of the after-hours roster commitment

  • Position type: Casual

  • Location: Perth WA, Peel WA, Southwest Region

What you bring to the role

Minimum qualifications in welfare Cert IV in Community Services, youth work, child development, social sciences or related field and/or relevant industry experience

Certificate IV level qualification is the minimum educational requirement for this position

  • Working with Children check
  • A current unrestricted Australian Driver Licence
  • Current First Aid Certificate

  • Efficient time management including the ability to prioritise case load

  • In depth understanding of child protection legislation and ability to identify relevant factors indicating a child may be at risk of significant harm

  • Understanding of issues relating to mental health, gambling, drugs and alcohol, family violence, socioeconomic challenges and family separation
  • Provide day to day care if respite, mentoring is required
  • Supervision and transport for children and young people
  • Actively participate in activities, special interests and increase competencies of young people
  • Form and maintain professional, nurturing relationships
  • Actively support the child/young person to develop and maintain social skills
  • Maintenance of progress notes and report writing

Skills & Experience

  • Prior knowledge and/or experience working with young people who have experienced trauma is desirable.
  • Prior knowledge and/or experience working with young people with a disability.
  • Experiencing working with children who are PEG fed is desirable but not essential.
