About the Company
Davidson Technology are working with a large State Government Department to secure a Principal Technical Specialist, Firewalls to join a Cyber Security Program responsible for delivering information security priorities to enable delivery whilst maintaining Network Security.
About the Role
As the Principal Technical Specialist (Firewalls), you'll serve as the technical lead for Department's Cyber Security Program, driving the implementation, upgrade, and optimisation of Check Point firewall infrastructure and related network security technologies. Reporting to the Technical Delivery Manager, you'll provide expert leadership in deploying and configuring Check Point and Palo Alto firewalls, as well as F5 LTM/GTM and WAF solutions, ensuring robust, compliant, and high-performing security environments. You will integrate firewall solutions with Cisco network infrastructure to maintain seamless connectivity and availability while managing firewall rule bases and policy governance through Network Security Policy Management tools. You will collaborate closely with vendors, project, and operational teams to deliver secure and reliable outcomes, proactively monitor system health using SolarWinds, and provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis. Additionally, you'll contributes to the continuous improvement of Department's network security posture by producing detailed technical documentation, guiding ICT change processes, and advising on emerging technologies and best practices.
About You
To be successful in this role, you'll be a highly experienced network security professional with deep technical expertise in Check Point firewall technologies, including implementation, upgrades, troubleshooting, and policy optimisation, complemented by strong proficiency in Palo Alto and F5 solutions. With a robust background in Cisco routing and switching, you will excel in integrating complex firewall infrastructures within large enterprise environments. You'll be skilled in using tools such as AlgoSec for network security policy management and SolarWinds for monitoring and performance reporting, deliver precise technical artefacts, including configuration, design, and change documentation, aligned with Departmental standards. You will need a comprehensive understanding of cyber security frameworks, ITIL processes, and ServiceNow for effective incident, change, and configuration management. Known for your analytical acumen and problem-solving capability, you'll provide expert guidance, foster collaboration across technical and operational teams, and build strong relationships with vendors and stakeholders. Operating both independently and as a technical leader, you will contribute to firewall replacement projects, drive standardisation and innovation, and ensure secure, compliant, and high-performing network environments across the organisation.
The Benefits
You will be offered a 12-month contract (possible extension) on an excellent daily rate and the ability to negotiate a flexible working arrangement for the duration of the assignment.
