As the Medtech Laboratory Manager at the University of Melbourne's new VMH FabHub, you will spearhead the establishment and daily operations of this state-of-the-art training facility. You'll have the opportunity to collaborate with prestigious partners, manage a high-performing team, and contribute to the advancement of medical technology education in Victoria.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and Manage VMH FabHub Operations: Oversee daily operations, manage training enquiries, and coordinate space bookings.
  • Ensure Compliance and Safety: Implement and manage Quality and OHS requirements, conduct inspections, and develop risk assessments.
  • Procure and Maintain Equipment: Manage procurement, maintenance, and compliance of laboratory equipment and facilities.
  • Support Educational Activities: Develop and deliver practical classes, including preparing chemicals and cultivating cells for teaching.

You will bring strong leadership and communication skills to manage the VMH FabHub, overseeing its operations and collaborating with partners to advance Medtech education and innovation.

You may also:

  • Have a background in medical technologies with relevant experience in scientific or medical laboratories
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Have budget management experience and strong organisational abilities
  • Demonstrate a commitment to customer service and continuous improvement
  • Have experience in managing specialist equipment and ensuring safety compliance

Your new team – Department of Biomedical Engineering
The Department of Biomedical Engineering is a vibrant and rapidly growing department within Melbourne School of Engineering, working on some of the most challenging problems at the interface of engineering with life and medical sciences. The central aim of the Department is to apply interdisciplinary expertise and thinking to make new discoveries and provide innovative solutions that will improve healthcare and social wellbeing. 

Our research covers a breadth of areas in biomaterials and tissue engineering; biomechanics and mechanobiology; bionics, biomedical imaging and neuroengineering; systems and synthetic biology. We have strong national and international linkages with industry, hospitals, research institutes, and universities. 

We teach students within the Bioengineering Systems undergraduate majors in the Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Biomedicine, and offer two Masters programs: Master of Engineering (Biomedical) and Master of Engineering (Biomedical with Business).
