About Us:

Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria's newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges.

The Opportunity:

The Senior Speech Pathologist will provide speech, language and communication assessments both independently and as part of a comprehensive multidisciplinary Autism assessment process for young people. This is a key role in our team and builds capacity across the service in supporting young people with SCLN who access tertiary mental health.

Our service is made up of compassionate, curious, and committed people. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Senior Speech Pathologist to join our Neurodevelopmental team.

This 12 month Fixed-Term Family Leave position starts in November 2025.

About the Role:

The Senior Speech Pathologist is part of a supportive team providing a range of assessments (Autism, ADHD, and other neurodevelopmental differences).

This is a crucial and highly valued role where the incumbent will continue to improve support for young people with speech language and communication needs (SCLN) who are accessing mental health care. You will provide specialist input in multidisciplinary assessments and support for young autistic people.

What You'll Do:

  • Conduct speech pathology assessments focused on language and social communication together with diagnosis of any developmental language disorder.
  • Produce high-quality reports with recommendations for managing clients' Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN) in a timely manner.
  • Provide specialist input in multidisciplinary assessments and support for young autistic people.
  • Consult and build capacity among clinicians within the multidisciplinary team and PYMHWS regarding SLCN in young people.
  • Deliver brief interventions for young people with SLCN and their families as required to enhance access to mental health care..

About You:

Approved Degree in Speech Pathology eligible for membership with Speech Pathology Australia.

Experience in Speech Pathology theory and practice, focusing on SCLN of young people in mental health settings.

Skilled in working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental differences.

Strong communication skills to convey clinical observations, assessment outcomes, and recommendations.

Passionate about supporting young people with SCLN needs in all areas of their lives.
