About the role
We are offering a Permanent role of counsellor/case manager in the team at our Belmont office. The position is based in Belmont where our Find and Connect Support Service and Forced Adoption Support Service is based. The current vacancy is three days per week, the capacity to provide monthly additional outreach capacity to Bunbury is also desirable.
The role involves providing counselling and case management services to clients, conducting psychosocial assessments and identifying their needs and goals, including mental health and/or drug abuse issues, accommodation, skill development, recreational activities, employment etc. Working collaboratively with clients to set priorities and realistic goals which may be achieved through counselling interventions, engagement in social support and utilising the clients' strengths and resources. Identifying relevant services and resources (formal and informal) to make warm referrals and ensure client linkage to services. Empower clients to develop necessary skills and confidence to engage in services and ensure they receive the support to which they are entitled. Monitoring and reviewing client progress at appropriate intervals to review the case management support plans. Obtaining client feedback about the assistance they have received and ensuring they are linked into long term support services.
The program also has a client drop-in component and regular social peer events, the successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring clients are greeted warmly and welcomed into the support service. They will have flexibility around informally engaging with clients when they drop in and help facilitate peer events.
Skills, experience, and qualifications
Essential
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or Social Sciences
- Significant knowledge of, and practical experience in trauma informed counselling
- Knowledge and skills in working with complex trauma, supporting clients in crisis and managing people with challenging behaviours
- Sound practice in maintaining safety, and the ability to work effectively, outside of the office environment including home visits, willingness to work in offsite locations including outreach to rural/regional locations throughout WA
- Knowledge and understanding of the impact of a diverse range of mental health issues
- Commitment to supporting disadvantaged community members, particularly adults who, as children have experienced complex trauma, trauma through adoption and/or institutional care
- A WA drivers' licence
Desirable
- Experience working with people affected by forced adoption practices and/or Forgotten Australians and Former Child Migrants
- Some flexibility to work alternate hours and/or days as required to meet clients' needs
