What You'll Deliver:

In this crucial role, you will be responsible for providing advanced technical leadership in municipal drinking water process engineering, guiding a portfolio of water infrastructure projects. Your contributions will focus on delivering sustainable, efficient, and innovative solutions for the complex challenges faced by drinking water systems across South-East QLD.

  • Technical Leadership: Oversee the technical direction of municipal drinking water projects, ensuring the application of best practices in process engineering, design methodologies, and implementation strategies.
  • Expert Process Design: Lead the detailed design and optimisation of drinking water treatment processes, including coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection, and solids handling with a focus on current industry innovations and advanced technologies.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to local, state, and national regulatory frameworks (i.e. Australian Drinking Water Guidelines) through investigation and application of relevant standards in all phases of drinking water treatment and distribution.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilise modelling tools and data analytics to evaluate system performance and make informed recommendations for process enhancements, energy efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in drinking water management.
  • Sustainable Solutions Development: Collaborate on initiatives to implement sustainable engineering practices, including water quality monitoring, resource recovery, and integration of advanced treatment technologies.
  • Interagency Collaboration: Engage with stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and public entities to ensure alignment on project objectives and technical requirements, championing effective communication and knowledge transfer across all levels.

What You'll Bring to the Table:

This highly technical role requires extensive experience and a passion for process optimisation as well as a collaborative, client-focused approach. You will contribute:

  • Extensive Experience: At least 10 years of experience specifically in municipal drinking water process engineering, with a proven track record in the design and delivery of both small and large-scale projects that encompass:
    • Advanced knowledge of treatment technologies, including membrane filtration, reverse osmosis/desalination, and advanced oxidation processes.
    • Significant experience with water quality management, distribution system optimisation, and treatment plant operational improvements.
    • Involvement and interest in the range of emerging technologies in water treatment and design including Purified Recycled Water and Integrated Water Management
  • Technical Acumen: Expertise across the entire project lifecycle, from conceptualisation and feasibility studies to detailed design, construction oversight, and commissioning of drinking water treatment facilities.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of compliance requirements and industry standards governing drinking water treatment processes
  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities with experience in using modelling software and analytical tools to drive effective solutions and optimise operational performance.
  • Qualifications: Chartered Professional Chemical Engineer status is desirable or a commitment to attaining this recognition.
  • Innovation Mindset: A strong commitment to fostering sustainable and effective engineering solutions that enhance public health, environmental stewardship and community wellbeing.
