This full-time role will see you play a vital part in delivering exceptional experiences for our customers as we take them on unforgettable whale watching tours. Based in the heart of Perth, and travelling through the state to Bremer Bay & Augusta you'll have the opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and enjoy the beautiful Western Australian coastline.

About You

What we're looking for

  • Previous experience in a similar marine or customer service role, ideally within the tourism or hospitality industry
  • A passion for the outdoors and a love of the ocean
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure

  • A valid Australian driver's licence

The Role

What you'll be doing

  • Researching and educating customers on many cetacean species (training provided)
  • Assisting with the safe operation and navigation of our fleet of vessels
  • Providing excellent customer service to all passengers, ensuring they have an enjoyable and memorable experience
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of the vessels to the highest standards
  • Preparing and serving food and beverages to passengers
  • Responding to any queries or issues that arise during tours
  • Following all safety protocols and procedures

Whale Watch WA has grown exponentially over the last 12 years and we now have an exciting opportunity to offer the right person to join the pod and take our family company to another level over the next 5 years and beyond.

We are looking for experienced crew with excellent people skills to join our family owned and operated team. The successful applicant with Whale Watch Western Australia, you'll play a key role in delivering world-class cetacean tours and experiences from Perth, Augusta & Bremer Bay. This is a permanent, ongoing position requiring weekend and public holiday work. You'll be part of a professional and friendly team, assisting with guest service, food and beverage, vessel presentation, and general operations on board our day cruises to the continental shelf on our day tours and near coastal on our intra day tours. There is opportunity for future managerial offers as the company continues to advance. We require disciplined clean cut professionals with strong management and interpersonal skills. The crew must portray the following attributes

Experience

Marine Crew - Deckhands/Hostess's

Working in close conjunction with the Vessel Master, duties will include:

  • Deck duties, including bunkering & docking
  • Commentary (training provided)
  • Onboard sales, stock control and reconciliation
  • Ensure the highest standards of customer service at all times
  • Assist with the safe, efficient, and timely boarding and disembarkation of all passengers
  • Assist passengers where necessary - strong customer focus
  • Perform cleaning duties
  • Attend to passenger comfort and safety
  • Engine room maintenance
  • Tender operations

Where is the work

Our annual migration is as follows;

  • Jan-April - Bremer Bay (Orca Tours)
  • April-May - Perth (Blue Whale Tours)
  • May-August - Augusta (Humpback & Southern Right Tours)
  • Sept-Dec - Perth (Humpback Tours)

When outside of Perth accommodation and some meals are provided.

*Our Orca & Blue Whale Tours are full day tours to the continental shelf and return (experience desirable) and our Humpback and Southern Right Whale tours are 2 hour twice daily.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join a strong family team as our company moves forward in the research & discovery of Western Australian Cetaceans.

There will be training provided to the successful candidates on the idiosyncrasy's conducting the tours around whales and other wildlife.
